Optical coherence tomography and histologic measurements of retinal and choroidal thicknesses in guinea pig eyes

چکیده
Background: The purpose of this study was to evaluate optical coherence tomography and histologic measurements of retinal and choroidal thicknesses in guinea pig eyes, and assess the relationships between those thicknesses with spherical equivalent and axial length. Methods: Twelve tri-colored guinea pigs, aged from 5 to 6 weeks, were collected. Spherical equivalent (SE) was measured with a streak retinoscope. Axial length was determined by A-scan ultrasonography. Retinal and choroidal thicknesses were measured by OCT and histology, respectively. Results: The Bland-Altman analysis showed that there were significant differences for retinal and choroidal thicknesses between the OCT and histology. Furthermore, choroidal thicknesses were correlated with SE and axial length, while there were no significant correlations between retinal thicknesses with SE and axial length. Retinal and choroidal thicknesses measured by OCT were positively correlated with histology. Conclusion: Retinal and choroidal thicknesses could be well measured from OCT images and histological sections with reasonable agreement. The degree of myopia and elongation of the globe are associated with thinning of choroidal thickness, while not with retinal thickness.

Purpose: To analyze the correlation of optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA) findings with visual acuity (VA) in patients with branch retinal vein occlusion (BRVO). Methods: This cross-sectional study was performed on 20 eyes of 20 patients with unilateral BRVO involving the macula referred to the ophthalmology clinic of Rassoul Akram Hospital. OCTA imaging was conducted for all patie...
متن کاملIn Vivo Choroidal Vascular Lesions in Diabetes on Swept-Source Optical Coherence Tomography
Diabetes induces microvascular diseases including diabetic retinopathy and choroidopathy which reciprocally promote the pathogenesis, although optical coherence tomography images of diabetic choroidopathy remains to be documented. Here we evaluated the qualitative characteristics of choroidal vascular lesions in patients with diabetes and their association with diabetic retinopathy on swept-sou...
متن کاملBaseline subfoveal choroidal thickness as an indicator for bevacizumab outcomes in central retinal vein occlusion
Background: Retinal vein occlusions are one of the most common form of retinal vascular disorders and could lead to vision loss due to macular edema, macular ischemia and sequelae from neovascularization. Anti-venous endothelial growth factor (anti-VEGF) treatment is the choice strategy of treatment for patients with macular edema secondary to central retinal vein occlusion (CRVO). There is an ...
متن کاملReproducibility of retinal and choroidal thickness measurements in enhanced depth imaging and high-penetration optical coherence tomography.
PURPOSE Two optical coherence tomography (OCT) modalities can visualize the choroid: high-penetration OCT (HP-OCT) using a long wavelength, and enhanced depth imaging technique using Heidelberg OCT (EDI-OCT). The purpose of this study was to compare and investigate the agreement among the retinal/choroidal thickness parameters. METHODS Twenty-four eyes of 12 healthy volunteers were examined s...

OBJECTIVE To compare choroidal thickness between patients with type 2 diabetes (T2D) and healthy controls measured using swept-source optical coherence tomography (SS-OCT). METHODS The sample comprised 157 eyes of 94 T2D patients, 48 eyes of which had diabetic macular edema (DME), and 71 normal eyes of 38 healthy patients. Subfoveal (SF) choroidal thickness, and choroidal thickness at 500-μm ...
